Tea Creations: Matcha + Sugar + Freezer –> Matcha Ice Cubes!

Here is a simple recipe on how to prepare some matcha ice cubes. It is quite a versatile recipe as these can be used for a variety of other dishes. The matcha that is used can vary according to how much you have, how much sweetener you’d like to use, etc.

You can just mix matcha, sugar and water into a bowl and mix well. Once this is done, add the mixture into an ice tray and freeze it. Voila! Your matcha ice cubes are done. As you can see, you can use the ice cubes with lemonade, grind them up with oat milk to get a vegan matcha smoothie, etc. It is quite a versatile recipe because you can much more with matcha ice cubes then we have displayed above. We could also see this being used in a bingsu recipe or something like this.

If you are going to use sugar, it might be best to use a culinary grade of matcha as opposed to a ceremonial grade of matcha. It isn’t shown in the video, but the member of our staff making the ice cubes in the video is most likely using our Premium Restaurant Matcha or Ceremonial Matcha Uji. While both of these can be used for cooking, the Premium Restaurant Matcha is especially good if you are going to be using a decent amount of sugar. If using no or a very little amount of sugar, the Ceremonial Matcha is good. We recommend people use the Ceremonial Matcha Uji and the Matcha Chiyo-no-Shiro for higher end recipes or just to be drank by itself. Perhaps in the future we can do a recipe using our Houjicha Powder or Instant Mugicha Powder in the same way.
